Professional Support Officer (fieldwork & local learning and KS3 resources)
Overview
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of two strands of the Action Plan for Geography - Fieldwork and Local learning and KS3 Resources. For further details of these initiatives please see our website:

This work forms a key part of the Society’s responsibilities to deliver the Action Plan for Geography initiative funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) from 2006-2011, which aims to raise the standards of teaching and learning in geography.
The fieldwork element is the larger part of the post. The fieldwork resources, with a clear emphasis on locally relevant fieldwork are to be delivered on line and form the basis of a programme of continuing professional development (CPD) across the 9 regions of England which is fed by the development of fieldwork teaching networks in the regions. The organisation of these networks is a key element of the post. The majority of the KS3 resources are now complete and available on the website
www.geographyteachingtoday.org.uk Remaining units have been commissioned and the incoming post holder will be required to ensure that revisions, editing and uploading is completed to target deadlines and required quality standards.
Contractual summary
The post is based in Kensington, London. The appointment is to cover maternity leave and is temporary for a fixed term of six months. The appointment is from 1st September – 28th February 2010. At the end of this six month period there may be the opportunity for a further fixed term extension to the contract. The salary for this post is £30,000 pa. We welcome applications from those seeking a period of Secondment. There will be a probationary period for this post of two months. Holiday entitlement is five weeks per year pro rata plus the periods over which the Society is closed between Christmas and New Year and on Bank holidays.
